A Visit to Orsa Björnpark

This wildlife park located in Grönklitt and classified as Europe’s largest predator park. It is fairly large with a size of 325,000 square meters. The park is not your average zoo, the animals live in large enclosures with natural forest environments. The park’s focus revolves around large predators from the northern hemisphere such as snow leopards, polar bears, brown bears, and wolves.  In other words some of the world’s most endangered and greatest predators have a habitat here.

During the last year the park has received many new animal pups, among other things a brown bear, tiger, Persian leopard, and a lynx. Uniquely,  Sweden’s only polar bears reside here and they live in the world’s largest polar bear shed. I  seen one chewing a frozen chunk of meat at the park. It definitely was a sight see because I never seen real polar bear before.

The whole park in itself is fairly large so it is good to keep in mind; for safety reasons there are no trolleys, shelves or wheelchairs for lending or rental in the park. There is an easier trip for those who have difficulty walking  throughout the park in the top tree area called Toppstugan.  Pets on the other hand are strictly forbidden. The enclosed predators are fed with the entire body of a dead animal. For instance, I saw a bear ripping through a deer carcass at the park. According to the wildlife officials at this park, it’s kept as natural as possible because the animals get more minerals and nutrients if they consume a whole carcass.

As far as recommendations, I definitely recommend the park to animal lovers and it’s a must for carnivore lovers. The park’s spacious atmosphere will leave guest in a wild delight. If your planning to visit Dalarna and in the Mora area, make a stop to Orsa Björnpark
