Dala Pride 2018

Dala Pride is a norm critical, intersectional, cross-border, and open-minded LGBT festival. The event is organized by the Falu Pride Cultural Association, that desires to push norm-critical thinking in Falun and Dalarna through the creation of meeting places for different cultural events. The festival has brought thousands of people together  at the Cultural House of Falun for a full week around Dalarna with a prideful parade to celebrate in Falun. Dala pride is full of activities ranging from mini folk concerts, artwork and games for kids, and even a breakfast sit-in just for lesbians.

The association’s worth base is anti-racist and queer-feminist which specialize in intersectional norm criticism and LGBT. The aim was to try for boldness, commonness and equality, and to draw attention and highlight norm breaking views . The target market is all individuals with a young and open mind, it did not matter if they liked rainbows or not. The activities were free, politically unobstructive, and felt safe with the abundance of Swedish cops patrolling.

Dala pride’s mission is to bring to light new thoughts towards guests and question invasive thinking patterns: racism, transgender or gay rights.  Dala pride has done that with personal stories, conferences between different types of individuals, cultural experiences, and by connecting completely different social problems with one another. I had the opportunity to witness this festival and it was a great experience to see different types of people unite for a common cause.  There was activities for all ages, great food, informative cultural experiences, and the parade was definitely a sight to see. As the old saying goes, if you don’t stand for something, you’ll fall for anything.
